Then I started banging my head on the laptop . . .

So, it’s been One. Of. Those. Weeks. Actually, more like One. Of. Those. Semesters., to be honest.

I am BEAT. I have had more than a handful of people tell me how exhausted I look, I kid you not. Yes, I will whine here. Now, granted, this isn’t a whine of epic proportions; I have a roof over my head, food to eat, a job, a family, etc. etc. I’m just BEAT this semester with more work than ever before — twice the amount of classes that I typically teach. And it’s the 11th week out of a 15-week semester and it hasn’t stopped yet. At one point here I posted that I thought it would slow down in mid-October, but all I have to say to that is:

WHAT A FOOL I WAS!!

So that all makes Judy a cranky girl!

And a forgetful girl who is making stupid silly mistakes.

Luckily they’re the mistakes that so far aren’t too hard to recover from. Such as — I think I have a class when I don’t, so I get all ready for said class and they “don’t show up,” which is better than NOT being there for a class that does show up.

Anyways . . . . this morning one thing after another went wrong. We use laptops with our classes and we have to log into each and every bloody laptop (18 of them, when they’re all in working order and when there are at least that many students in the class), then get each one onto the library’s homepage before we can then teach the class. This typically takes 1/2 hour, less time if a student worker or other library staff are helping me set them up. Well, I had four classes in a row today — unusual for me; I typically try not to teach that many classes in a row. For one thing, the laptop batteries last about 80-120 minutes so I have to deal with plugging them all in which is a logistical nightmare because we really don’t have enough outlets OR enough extension cords. Getting them all plugged in is, I swear, a major hazard for someone to trip over and a major fire hazard too. Despite all of that, our boss at the library doesn’t see the need for a classroom lab with desktop computers.

NotthatI’mbitter.

But I digress. Because everything went wrong getting ready for work and then getting to work, I got there only 10 minutes before class started so I was hustling this morning. Luckily, my co-workers and the student workers helped out a lot to get me ready to teach. Then I was teaching — more of a workshop, actually, with little teaching and more helping out, and things just weren’t going well with the first class when I just sat down and had to keep logging into the laptops. I had this class before in the semester. This was their second time in the library and I had really just had it. I finally just sat down and made whiny crying noises and then actually pretended to bang my head onto the laptop. The students actually did make “we feel sorry for you” noises. Either that, or they were “we’re scared of you and never want to come back to see the crazy librarian” noises.

*sigh* In a few minutes I’m leaving to go to calling hours for my friend’s dad. Then home to collapse.

Thank God we have Monday off for Veteran’s Day, and interestingly enough, Nate has school. So on Mon., I plan to sleep, veg and do some cleaning. In that order.

And stay away from the library’s laptops.

We have the reverse situation here. DH says little bun’s school is “terrible daycare.” I don’t think they see themselves in that role . . .

I am so sorry you have to go through all that! If only they knew what a treasure they have in you; and could stock your lab the way you want it done. What an advantage your students would have then! Hang in there girlfriend.
