Coming Home To Nate

Last night I got home just after Frank had put Nate to bed. He doesn’t get out of his bed unless he asks and we say OK, so I hear from his room:

MOMMY!! . . . . MOMMYMOMMYMOMMY!!!!!!!! MOOOOMMMMMYYYYY!!!!

He is so much fun to come home to.

When Frank comes home, it’s the same thing:

DADDY!! DADDYDADDYDADDYDADDY!!!!!

and if he’s up, he runs to the door and jumps into his dad’s arms. Then, it’s the absolute sweetest scene that sometime I have to be ready with my camera to get a truly candid photo of. Frank holds him and Nate gets up super-close to Frank’s face, looking incredibly close into his eyes, asking him:

“How many eyes do I have?” Frank: three. Nate, even closer now: “you have two. How many do I have now?” Frank: you have four now. Nate: “you still have two. How many do I have now?”

It’s the cutest thing ever. I will be very sad when Nate’s too heavy for Frank to hold him. He’s getting close to that point too.

Ahhhhh, coming home to an exuberant, outgoing child. It’s the best!!

So what do I do with this: I walk into Miss I’s toddler class, and the OTHER children yell “Yay!!! Miss I’s Mommy!!!” but she just grumbles. I’m hoping she’s grumbling because they’re yelling . . . because later she says she yikes me.

Hey, Abebech, don’t feel bad. I may get this reception at home, but each and every time I pick this child up at Y-Care, I get this: “awwwww,” said in a very disappointed voice.

He seriously wants to stay at a place pronounced “Why Care” rather than come home with his loving mother.

“At least he’s having fun there,” is how I comfort myself.

And I’m glad she yikes you. :)

Yep, the best.

With teens, you could come home and bang a gong, and most times they wouldn’t notice. Of course, they mostly have headphones on, so I guess it’s excusable. But I miss those little feet running down the hall and that “Mommy’s home!”
