Going To The Source

The movie. Yeah, THAT movie, the one people are talking about in the adoption community.

You know, vietK has the right idea — go to the source. He has questions, so he has asked them, very respectfully, of the writer of the movie herself.

He already has a few answers, not from the writer but from her mother-in-law, who has said:

Without attempting to answer for her, Ms. Diablo Cody is married to an adoptee, and I am blessed to be the birthmom of her phenomenal and wonderful husband. I can say that she was instrumental in helping him with his search for me, and she has been more that intimately involved with his feelings and emotions before and during our reunion. The rest, I will leave up to her to say…

Not an endorsement of the movie on my part. But I still can’t condemn it. Haven’t seen it nor have I read the script.

Hey folks, I’m a librarian; what can I say? Whenever I have prejudged something like this, whether it be a book or a movie, I’ve regretted it because it goes against what my professional background tells me to do.

Yay, vietK! I’ll be interested to see if you receive answers, and if so, what those answers are.

The Dutch will love it, they thought Secrets and Lies was hilarious.

I might avoid this, I might not. Haven’t decided yet and I don’t have to.

Still reading your blog Judes. Can’t keep away!!

Ohhhh, thanks Kim! I’m glad you can’t stay away — that’s good, right?!! :)

Honestly, I rarely am able to get out to see a grown-up movie so it’s doubtful I’ll be able to see it in the theaters even though my curiosity is WAY peaked at this point. Of course it wouldn’t have the same triggers for me as it would for first moms and I understand the hesitation that many have about it.

If I did see it then I would need to be at home watching it on dvd because films that deal with adoption or reunion are something that I can feel vulnerable about.

Not being able to stay away is a good thing. I always want to see more photos of Frank wearing silly hats! And read your well written posts too.

Hmmm. I just watched the season finale of Dexter, and I was wondering if people on adoption boards are discussing it. I don’t want to go into details because I don’t want to spoil it for people who haven’t seen it yet, but Dexter basically has to choose between his biological family and his adoptive family. It was very compelling…and disturbing as well, but Dexter is always disturbing.
