Oh, For The Love Of

And now, let’s present these ignorant arguments:

“why is Bobby Cutts being charged with two murders when women who abort their babies every day aren’t charged with murder?”

Holy crap.

I’m not about to get into a pro-life/pro-choice argument here, but I will say this:

According to Ohio law, someone can be charged with murder if an unborn child is able to live outside of the mother’s womb.

A fetus of 12 weeks or under cannot live outside of its mother’s womb.

A fetus that is two weeks from being born can clearly live outside of her mother’s womb.

Also, this is a murder case. This is about the law. When this case arrives in the courtroom, there will most likely be people who will try to make the case about race, morality, police hiring procedures, and a bunch of other things that actually have nothing to do with the actual case. Heck, they already are. But in essence, this is about a person taking the lives of two — a woman and her nearly-full-term fetus, that yes, could have very easily lived if she had been born.
________

I talked to a friend of mine last night who I hadn’t talked to for quite awhile. Her husband is a member of the Canton Police Department. Yep, the same Canton Police Department that Cutts was on. He knows Cutts. I don’t think he worked with him much, if at all, because they had different shifts. But imagine. These are another group of people who have been greatly affected by this crime. Imagine how betrayed his fellow officers feel by Cutts’ actions, by the fact that Cutts has allegedly (and most probably) committed this horrible crime. Officers who have trusted him, who have been on patrol with him, who have made arrests with him.

Patty Porter, in her grace and wisdom, said in her press conference on Monday that she doesn’t think that any group of people should be blamed for this. She said that the police had been wonderful.

She’s an inspiration. A role model for tolerance and grace under the worst of circumstances.
________

So many people affected by this; the ripples are probably just starting to be felt.
