April 1971. 10 years old. This was near pictures that said “Birthday 1971,” but this wasn’t labelled as such so I don’t know if it was also a birthday picture or around my 10th birthday. Whatever, it’s a picture of a different side of me. Most pictures of my younger days show me looking quite innocent, or goofy, or just having fun. This one, though, shows some of the wicked, mischievious side of me. That look on my face, that glance up from my eyes, that ornery smile. Ohhhh, yeah. And I’m playing with a tape recorder when I’m looking like that! Yep, that’s a future stalker-for-hire in the making!!
And let’s talk about the fashion and style a bit here. I remember those pants quite well. I remember the fabric for those pants because my mother made those pants. Wow! The background for those pants was a burnt orange color and a lot of the pattern was gold. Wowza! And I really need to tell you about the style of the house. That wallpaper was in the house when we bought it, but my parents didn’t believe in replacing something like wallpaper until it was falling off of the walls, which took a long time. So the dark green eagle wallpaper in the living room — on three walls — with gold shiny wallpaper on the fourth wall — stayed for a long time. Must be why all four of us kids grew up to be so weird. It’s the wallpaper! Plus, there was a different kind of green eagle wallpaper in the bathroom. Lovely. (NOT!) And lots of green carpet throughout the house. And salt and pepper shakers, sugar, flour, tea and coffee canisters, and other items like that on the wallpaper in the kitchen. Dark green, naturally.
Ohhhh, those were the days. And those were SOME pants! No wonder I was looking so devilish in those pants. I think you’d have to sell your soul to wear those! Yikes!!
